How Does Membership Work?

    Membership in WVMTA is through the national organization, MTNA. Members are required to join at the national and state levels. Local is optional.


  • State Membership Dues

    Active: $30

    Collegiate: $3

  • Local Associations

    Local Association annual dues are determined by each individual chapter. Contact the local chapter president for specific information.

  • The Local Associations provide an important networking resource for the independent music teacher by providing:

    • Opportunities for personal and professional growth including the development of teaching, communication and leadership skills.

    • Opportunities to network with other music professionals in the community.

    • Performance and educational experiences for our students.

    • Opportunities to work within the community to promote awareness of the value of music education for all individuals.

  • To join a WVMTA Local Association you must first join MTNA and WVMTA. You can do so by visiting the MTNA website. For more information on a local association near you contact any of the Local Association Chairs. If there is no Local Association near you, contact any WVMTA officer or visit www.mtna.org for more information on how to establish a group in your community. We look forward to meeting you!

  • MTNA offers a retired membership status upon request to members who are 65 years or older and have held continuous membership for 20 years. Retired members may not hold elected office at the division or national levels and cannot enter students in MTNA competitions. State and local affiliates may have similar restrictions. Request Retired Membership.

  • At this time, MTNA does not offer studio or group membership; anyone wanting to receive member benefits must join as an individual.
